Anita Felton is a well-established cello teacher, based in Totton - teaching across Southampton, the New Forest and the Wessex area. Anita teaches cello and recorder in a variety of independent and state schools and offers private tuition in the student’s home. She is happy working with players of all ages. Anita enjoys directing ensembles and acts as a coach to the cello section of a Southampton youth orchestra.
Cellobabies and Anita
I am finding Cellobabies truly refreshing and that the approach is useful in many ways, (and for many age groups), in my teaching. At this stage in my career I find myself teaching younger children and appreciate that this inspiring system includes technique, musicianship and notation from the very start.
My thoughts on teaching music
I have always enjoyed making music and aim to give my pupils as good a musical experience, at whatever achievement level, as possible. Whether they are beginners or high flyers, soloists or group/ensemble players, I try to be adaptable in my teaching to ensure the best fit for the pupils.
Musical experience
Anita started playing the cello at age 12. She studied music at Southampton University from 1973 – 1976 studying cello with Sharon McKinley. Anita married a cello playing music teacher and raised two musical sons. She began teaching cello in 1988 working with individuals, private schools and local authorities.
Anita is also a specialist in music from the Tudor period performing with Courtlye Musick, leading a Youth Waits group and directing Tudor workshops in schools across the country. Using her experience with young musicians, Anita is developing schemes for young recorder players.
