Violinbabies and Jennifer
Violin babies is a great way to develop children’s natural affinity with music. It provides a good method to start a child’s musical journey as it reaches them on a level they can understand and enjoy.
My thoughts on teaching music
I enjoy teaching a range of ages and abilities and learning an instrument can enrich anyone’s life, regardless of when they start. I aim to tailor every lesson to the individual and use an enthusiastic and experienced approach. The most important thing is the lesson should be looked forward to and full of fun!
Musical experience
Jennifer started learning the violin in her home town of Dundee at the age of 8. In 1999, at the age of 16, she gained a place at the Junior Academy of Music at the RSAMD. After finishing school in 2001, she moved to Glasgow to study the BMus (Hons) course at the RSAMD. During her time at the RSAMD she had a particular interest in string quartet playing and was a founding member of the Ceoil Quartet. The quartet participated in many masterclasses with renowned musicians such as the Lindsay Quartet, the Allegri Ensemble, Eric Rosenblith and they toured with the Scottish Ensemble on their “High Flyers” tour. The quartet attended residential courses in Banff (Canada), Norway, Manchester and Italy to study with specialist tutors Lawrence Lesser, Andy Dawes, Levon Chilingirian and the late Rostropovich. Jennifer graduated in 2005 and returned to the RSAMD in 2007 to complete a post graduate performance course.
Since graduating Jennifer has pursued her career as a freelance musician and has become an established violin teacher at Jordanhill School and tutors a number of private pupils. As well as classical music she has also performed with international pop musicans including Kanye West, Camera Obscura and Runrig. Jennifer has strong roots in the Scottish music tradition and has been a member of the much acclaimed ceilidh band “Sporranagain” for ten years. The band has toured Eastern Europe promoting Scottish music and play regularly at events around the country.
