Cellobabies and Rebecca
With a family of my own, I enjoy communicating with young children and understand the potential for very young children to make music. Cellobabies gives children the opportunity to play when they are physically ready with a fantastic comprehensive system of aural and note reading skills.
My thoughts on teaching music
I especially love teaching beginners with the aim of giving them a good technique right from the start saving the painful process of relearning at a later date, which was my own experience! I aim to make lessons enjoyable, choosing relevant music for each child that they love to play and enter them for exam grades when appropriate. I have a relaxed approach with the aim of imparting my love of cello playing with plenty of duets to keep their interest.
Musical experience
Born in Huddersfield, I began playing at 8 before winning a scholarship to Wells Cathedral School where I studied with Margaret Moncrieff and Raphael Wallfisch. In my last year I reached the semi-finals of BBC Young Musician of the Year before gaining a scholarship to study at the Royal Northern College of Music where my teachers included Ralph Kirshbaum.
Since graduating I have played with many orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic and Halle. I have taught beginners to advanced players and several of my pupils have gained places at R.N.C.M. Junior School, Chethams School of Music and The Yehudi Menhuin School.
